No NCAA--Maybe NIT

No NCAA Tournament bid for the Cougars this year. Looks like they missed it by one place as the USC Trojans, who finished just ahead of them in the standings, made it in. Here's hoping for an NIT bid. Here's hoping...

Worst Invention Ever

As an avid golfer, I'm a little ashamed to see that these exist. Apparently, anyone needing "relief" on the course can now get it with one of these. Whatever happened to finding a tree or hitting the restroom at the turn?

Just my luck, I would use the thing just to forget it in my golf back for weeks. Then I would wonder what that mysterious smell is--oh, it's just my month-old urine.

What Did I Just Agree To Do?

The first seven (7) people to respond to this post will get something made by [me].

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. I will not take requests.
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year (2009).
- I will post a second post that will be screened for addresses and contact info.

The catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well, if you expect me to do something for you.

The seven people will be confirmed once they put this into their journals as well.

Smooth Operator

This guy has issues. He sounds like he's Canadian by way of his accent--pretty brazen for a Canuck.

Interesting Coug Story

No posts in 5 weeks, then two in one day...sheesh....

Okay, so admittedly this is a bad year for Washington State football. Heck it's not a great year for football in the entire northwest. However, this story was sent to me by a fellow Coug fan about the tradition of the Cougar flag waived in the background of ESPN GameDay.

Check out the story here... )

Time Flies...

Whoa. It's been waaaaaaayyy too long between posts. No great excuse I suppose--just a heaping helping of life piled on that I'm finally getting to the bottom (or is that the top?) of.

In the last few weeks, my little sister has gotten married, my wife and son have had birthdays, and I went back and spent some time in Spokane (where I lived for a little while almost 10 years ago).

Spokane was great. One of my old haunts, the Blue Spark had $1 pints of Sam Adams Octoberfest on tap. Nice to know that $1 beer night still exists in this world. Also impressed that almost 10 years later that Tuesday night is still open mic.

Since last time, I have successfully finished Y: The Last Man. That was an absolutely fantastic read. I don't think I've read 60 issues of anything faster in my life. Now I am navigating my way through Sin City.

Again, it has been way too long and more to come soon...I hope.

First Place!

Our dragon boat team took first place in our "corporate" division over the weekend at the Tacoma Maritime Festival. We beat a team from Boeing among other teams including the three-time defending champion Simpson Timber.

Oh, and our team headquarters was beer garden adjacent--making the victory just that much better.

More Dragons

Tomorrow, a group of fellow employees (and myself) will be taking part in the dragon boat races that are part of the annual Tacoma Maritime Festival. Last time we attempted this feat here in Olympia, we came in second in our division. This time, the sky's the limit--we'll see--heh. Not sure if I'm more excited about the dragon boat races or that the races are beer garden adjacent.

More BNL News...

It appears that Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies was involved in a plane crash last week. Luckily no one was injured. Check out the story here Add that to Steven Page's cocaine possession charges and it's been one heck of a summer for the "Ladies."

Big News!

It seems that I am going to be a dad again in February. Any semblence of free time that I might have had before is now history. Seriously though, I couldn't be happier and feel extremely blessed.

My permanent accessory...a partytime necessity.

Just heard today that Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies has been charged with cocaine possession. Having been a Barenaked Ladies fan and having a wife that's an even bigger BNL fan, we were both shocked to hear the news.

Horrible

Just finished watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (as far as I know now only available on iTunes). Man, do I enjoy Joss Whedon. He could write fortune cookies and it would be unbelievable.

Saw the Dark Knight a week ago (sheeze time flies) at a midnight showing with the gang from OCC. Got me so amped that I wasn't able to sleep even after hitting the sack after 3:30 a.m. Not too much to say here that hasn't already been said other than it was worth staying up for. Can't believe that on the same night the theatre also had a midnight showing of Mamma Mia. Can't we get some standards for midnight showings...?

A Long Silence

First post in five weeks according to the info Livejournal provides when you log in--it's been too long. It has been a busy five weeks and that's probably the main reason for the lack of posts.

We took the great Canadian road trip up to Edmonton for a week to attend a wedding. It was a fantastic trip except for our return home which required us to leave there at 4:30 a.m. and arrive back home at 11:30 p.m. Pretty sure my buttcheeks are still imprinted on the seat of the car. Oh, also watched Spider-Man 3 even though warned not to do so. I thought that with such low expectations that I would be surprised. I was not surprised and it was terrible. I'm pretty sure my head exploded.

Speaking of exploding heads, during my five-week hiatus I gave myself a concussion by hitting my head--on of all things-the freezer door. I went to pull some leftovers out of the fridge and stood up without giving enough clearance and hit my head on the corner of the overhead freezer. The event brought me to my knees and by the following evening I had an explosive headache, body aches, and a fever of 102 degrees. The symptoms subsided over the following two days.

I did get some good reading done. I cannot recommend enough Essex County Vol. 2: Ghost Stories which combines my love of graphic novels and hockey. I also read Y: The Last Man Vol's 1 & 2 and man, I can't think anything I've ever read as fast. Also, Queen & Country Definitive Edition Vol. 2 which is fanfreakintastic.

Back to posting regularly--I promise Samra.

For the Football Fanatics

When we were in London, one of the biggest games in English club football (soccer) history was played in the Champions League Final in Moscow. Essentially, this is the year's culminating event in European football and the final of a knockout tournament that begins in August and runs throughout the season. This year it just so happened that Manchester United and Chelsea, two English teams, met in the final. It was the first time in history two English clubs had met in the Champions League final.

The game itself was one for the ages and ended in a penalty shootout with the score tied 1-1 after extra time. I found some decent footage, mind the German, of the penalty shootout. I won't spoil it (for those who don't know how it ended) but it was a true classic.
